About Shannon....

My Beginnings

I grew up in a small town in Iowa with my parents, a sister and a brother. Ever since I was very young, I have always been interested in animals. My drawings started at a very young age, but it wasn't until I was 8 years old and in 3rd grade that I realized I had a talent. I took any and every opportunity available to draw animals. Even in my spare time at home, I continued to draw.

I never took art classes in school. Only exploratory classes were the ones I attended. In college, I took an art class and was very bored due to the fact that they started with very simple techniques and drawings. I got bored easily and continued to work on my own techniques that have worked so well for me in the past and present.

My husband and I have a 3 1/2 year old chocolate and tan dapple mini Dachshund named Buster as well as a 2 year old black and tan piebald mini Dachshund named Jake. We own a house and enjoy working inside as well as outside.

I continue to draw animals (especially dogs, cats and horses). Friends have my artwork of their pets hanging in their homes. It feels so good to capture a pet on paper and to be able to give that to a very loving pet owner.

My Philosophy

I put a lot of time and hard work into each portrait. It's not unusual for me to spend 8+ hours on one piece of artwork. Many of my drawings have hours and hours of dedication put into them. I'm very meticulous with details to be sure the expressions of the animal shows through in each piece.
